Lights

Lights - February Air by sheale21

Born in Timmins, Ontario, LIGHTS lived in the Philippines and Jamaica during her elementary school years. "My family is very get-up-and-go if we feel called to do something different," the singer explains. "It was a really important thing to learn about as a kid, that nothing is so important that you cant leave it behind." LIGHTS' mother home schooled the kids; but, one day a week the singer's father would take over. "We looked forward to that day because we got to recite poetry and learn music. Nothing was taken too seriously and we got to sing. That really instilled in me a passion for music."

In 1997 the family moved back to Canada and almost immediately, nine year-old LIGHTS got her hands on a guitar. By eleven she'd learned a handful of chords, which she used to write her first song. Then, at thirteen she turned her attention to production. "I had so many more ideas than just the vocals and the guitar. I wanted to put a glockenspiel and strings and a bass and drums in there!"

As a teenager Lights spent much of her time writing songs up in her attic bedroom, which she dubbed Starry Night studios after her favorite Van Gogh painting. By eighteen LIGHTS had moved out of her parents' house and was living in Toronto with only her pet tarantula Lance to keep her company. In this state of near-isolation LIGHTS finally found her signature sound- a merging of classic pop songwriting with deeply intimate yet universally appealing lyrics. She wrote "February Air," a poignant ode to the chill of winter love, which became the first of four LIGHTS songs used by Old Navy in the company's 2008 spring ad campaign.

Though her star was clearly on the rise, it was LIGHTS' online profile that really solidified her fan base. Between the singer's MySpace page (which to date has over eight million visits and fifteen million plays,) her personal web site iamlights.com and her passion for web-based fantasy games like World of Warcraft, the artist's online identity is as evolved as your nerdiest teenage boy's and this is something she's very proud of. "There's an entire world of people out there that play WoW and are talking about science fiction and they feel a little bit outcast, so if you can reach those people that's sweet! Even my look is inspired by video game characters – it's a cross between Laura Croft and Wonder Woman."
In April 2008 LIGHTS released her eponymous EP. It contained six songs including "February Air," which reached #3 on the MuchMusic countdown in Canada, as well as the epic "Drive My Soul," which was an even bigger hit; the song was added to radio without being serviced, climbed all the way to #1 on Much Music, and spent over three months in the Top 20 on Hot AC radio. On the strength of her EP alone, LIGHTS won the 2009 Juno (the Canadian equivalent of a Grammy Award) for New Artist of the Year, joining the ranks of Feist and Nelly Furtado.

The singer's rapidly growing fan base was clamoring for live LIGHTS shows so she hit the road, playing countless sold out gigs in her home country, as well as numerous festival dates in the UK. In addition to touring extensively through the United States, this summer LIGHTS spent five weeks on the 2009 Vans Warped Tour and this fall will join Keane on their Canadian tour.

LIGHTS' full-length debut, The Listening, will be released this fall. It includes a few songs already familiar to die-hard Lights fans, as well as plenty of new material including the first single, "Saviour," a propulsive pop ballad that represents the essence of Lights. "My songs are spawned from moments of sadness or intense emotion," the singer says. "'Saviour' is a big example of taking one of those really dark emotional situations and turning it into something positive. I just happened to get hit with a really dark sad night. The melody started coming together and the words started pouring out. I was crying when I wrote the first line of the chorus and it actually sounds kind of like crying. It's a really, really powerful song for me."

I love Lights, A beautiful cannadian singer who puts love in her music. another addition to the blog.

Finnish rockers Poets of the Fall - singer Marko, guitarist Olli and keyboardist Captain - started out their musical adventure from scratch in 2003. Marko sold everything he had to invest in pursuing the love of his life, music, with his buddies Olli and Captain. He moved into his folks' basement, when he couldn't keep a place of his own any longer. The guys then built a little studio of their own in Captain's living room for the recording and producing sessions, and kept an office in Olli's beat up old car. The result of the recording sessions was a novel blend of pop, rock, metal and industrial sounds. Later the guys were joined by guitarist Jaska, bassist Jani and drummer Jari.

The band's first single was Late Goodbye, written for the acclaimed computer game Max Payne 2. Reaching millions of people through the game, the song went number one in Finland, and earned the guys international recognition and the first prize at the G.A.N.G. Awards in 2004.

Their debut album Signs of Life went straight to #1 on the Finnish album chart in January 2005, and stayed on the chart for over a year. The next album Carnival of Rust, released in April 2006, also hit the number one spot on its first week, with the debut album still on the official Top 40 chart. To date, both albums have sold platinum in Finland. The third album Revolution Roulette was released in March 2008. It also took the first place on the album chart, and broke the gold record limit in just a couple of weeks after its release. The fourth album Twilight Theater, released in March 2010, sold gold in one week, and made Finnish chart history by giving the band four number one places with their first four albums.

The singles and videos released from the albums have received lots of plays on radio, TV and the net. The song Carnival of Rust was the most played Finnish song in 2006, and the first single Dreaming Wide Awake from Twilight Theater spent several weeks among the top songs on national radio and TV. War, the second single from Twilight Theater, is featured in the blockbuster game Alan Wake. The game also has two completely new songs, performed as the in-game band Old Gods of Asgard.

Among others, Poets of the Fall has received the following awards:

* Best Finnish Act at MTV Europe Music Awards 2006

* Best Finnish Music Video of all time in TV2's Musiikki-TV and Best Music Video of 2006 at The Voice (video Carnival of Rust)

* Two Emma Awards (the Finnish Grammys) in 2005 - the best debut album and the best new act

* The Bronze Muuvi and People's Choice Muuvi 2006 Awards (video Carnival of Rust)

* Best Finnish band at the NRJ Radio Awards 2006

* Commercial Radio Stations' Newcomer of the Year Award in 2005

Poets of the Fall have played successful tours in Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Germany, United States, Estonia, Russia, Lithuania and India.

Candlebox - You by CrazieMagoo

candlebox is an American alternative rock band from Seattle, Washington. Since their debut, the group has released four studio albums, which have achieved multi-platinum and gold certification, as well as numerous charting singles, a compilation, and a CD+DVD.

The band has toured with such bands as Living Colour, The Flaming Lips, Our Lady Peace, Rush, Henry Rollins, Aerosmith, Godsmack, and Metallica. They were also a featured band on the main-stage at Woodstock '94 and made repeat live performances on Late Show with David Letterman.

Candlebox was the first successful act on Madonna's Maverick Records, which went on to sign Alanis Morissette, Deftones, and The Prodigy. After troubles with the label, however, Candlebox went on indefinite hiatus in 2000 after an alleged attempt to be freed from their contract. The band reunited in 2006, releasing their first studio album in 10 years and touring extensively. Formed in November 1990, Candlebox originally went by the name Uncle Duke; they changed their name the following year, purportedly inspired by lyrics from the Midnight Oil song "Tin Legs and Tin Mines." The band was originally composed of Kevin Martin on lead guitar and vocals and Scott Mercado on drums. They then added Peter Klett on guitar and Bardi Martin on bass in late 1991.

Rise to fame and commercial subsidence (1993–2000)

In their early career, Candlebox was occasionally looked down upon by members of the grunge movement; they criticized Candlebox's style and image as riding the grunge bandwagon. Nevertheless, the band played the Seattle club circuit and toured relentlessly.

Their persistence paid off when their 8-song demo tape gained the attention of Maverick Records.[4] On July 20, 1993, Candlebox released their self-titled debut album. It sold more than 4 million copies and peaked at #7 on Billboard's album charts. Candlebox featured the hit singles "Change," "You," "Far Behind," and "Cover Me." "Far Behind" entered Billboard's top 20 in July 1993, peaked at #18, and stayed on the charts until January 1994. The tremendous radio, concert, and television success gained them a main-stage slot at Woodstock '94 and put Candlebox at the forefront of the 1990s post-grunge scene.

Hot off the success of Candlebox, the band was eager to progress and by April 1994 had 36 new songs for a follow-up record.[4] On October 3, 1995, Candlebox released their second album, Lucy. Although it marked the beginning of a commercial subsidence, Lucy was certified gold thanks to singles such as "Simple Lessons" and "Understanding." Two days after the release of Lucy, Candlebox appeared on Working Class Hero: A Tribute to John Lennon with their cover of "Steel and Glass." Drummer Scott Mercado left the band the following year and was replaced by former Pearl Jam member Dave Krusen.

On July 21, 1998, Candlebox released their third studio album, Happy Pills. While a return to the simpler sound of their debut, it gained only marginal success. The song "Glowing Soul" was also recorded for the soundtrack to The Waterboy and included at the request of Adam Sandler. Inspired by the film, the song was based on a Bo Diddley rhythm and recorded with vintage equipment.

The following year would be a turbulent foreshadowing in the band's career. Krusen departed from Candlebox in 1999 and was replaced by Shannon Larkin of Ugly Kid Joe. Bardi Martin also left to attend college and was replaced by Rob Redick, formerly of Dig. By 2000, Candlebox went on hiatus. According to Martin, the band was unhappy with their record contract and attempted to be freed from Maverick by disbanding. The label considered Martin the sole remaining band member, but after two years of disputes over recording an obligatory fourth Candlebox album, Martin was terminated. As of 2007, Martin has received no royalties from album sales since 2001 and won't until the fourth record is paid back. Other band members, however, do receive royalties.

The former Candlebox members would pursuit other musical endeavors during the 2000s; in 2005, Kevin Martin recorded and performed as frontman of The Hiwatts. Peter Klett served as the leader of redlightmusic.

Reunion (2006–present)

In 2006, Rhino Records planned to release a "Best of" compilation of Candlebox. Band members were contacted of the issue which prompted the original band lineup to reunite for the first time in 10 years. To promote the compilation, Candlebox embarked on a three-month North American tour from July to October of that year. Bardi Martin dropped from touring in 2007 to continue his education to become a lawyer, allowing Adam Kury to take his place. During the time, the band would begin writing new material despite having no record label.

After several delays, Candlebox released its first album in 10 years, Into the Sun, on July 22 via Silent Majority/ILG records. The album was produced by Ron Aniello (Lifehouse, Barenaked Ladies) and features performances by both Scott Mercado and Dave Krusen on drums. The first single, "Stand," was released to radio in mid-May and Candlebox officially commenced touring in support of the new record in June 2008. "Stand" reached as high as #15 on the U.S. Mainstream Rock chart.

On July 4, 2008 Candlebox performed at the O'Fallon, Missouri Heritage and Freedom Fest in front of a record crowd. Two months later, the band released a live CD/DVD called Alive in Seattle

On August 9, 2010 Candlebox kicked off a five-show stint overseas performing for U.S troops at Camp Arifjan in Kuwait and continued on to Iraq.

Musical style

Candlebox's musical style, while predominately hard rock, has a wide range of influences. Some of their songs have strong references to blues, jazz, grunge, rock and even glam metal. Despite various aforementioned classic roots, their music is considered contemporary.

Nico Vega

Nico Vega - So So Fresh by ChelseaIRL
Not the solo artist one might assume from the name, Nico Vega is an alterna-rock trio from Los Angeles, CA. The band bio on the group's MySpace page explains the name thusly: "Nico Vega represents a modern day saint. A warrior that has led us to a more fulfilling, lighter way of being. She represents people and unity." (This manifesto goes on for another 228 words, but that's the gist.) Featuring singer and lyricist Aja Volkman, a vocal dead ringer for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Karen O who claims Janis Joplin and Tina Turner as her primary musical heroes, Nico Vega incorporates those vintage soul and blues influences into their spiky indie rock tunes, suggesting a musical affinity with the likes of the White Stripes, Black Keys, and Fiery Furnaces. Nico Vega formed in 2005; Volkman, a native of Eugene, OR, had dropped out of theater school at the California Institute for the Arts, giving herself one year to establish herself as a solo singer/songwriter in nearby Hollywood.

Volkman was most of the way through her self-imposed trial period and almost ready to move back home to Oregon when drummer Mikey Pena happened into one of her solo gigs. Joining forces, the pair quickly added guitarist Rich Koehler to form the bass-less trio. After releasing their debut EP, Choose Your Words Poorly, on their own in early 2006 and establishing themselves as a popular draw on the local concert scene thanks in large part to Volkman's uninhibited and minimally clothed on-stage performance style, Nico Vega signed with MySpace Records, the new recording arm of the popular social-networking site, for their second EP, 2007's No Child Left Behind. A full-length debut album was scheduled for early 2008. ~ Stewart Mason, All Music Guide

I love nico vega because of Aja's soaring vocals. its packed with so much emotion and pride. you can tell they love what they do and thats something that the music scene needs

Millionaires

Millionaires - Party Like A Millionaire by teamp 02-millionaires-alcohol by Dylon Elder
Millionaires started on the beautiful day of August 14th 2007. It was a quite sunny day, just like any other day in Huntington Beach, California; a perfect day to fly a medium-sized vibrant rainbow butterfly kite. But instead, Melissa and Allison Green (yes, they're sisters) started to become inquisitive about their new Apple desktop and decided to "fuck around" on Garageband. After two hours of intense physical labor filled with blood, sweat and piss, they came up with the first hit, 'I Like Money.' They decided that maybe since the Garageband loops and vocal recordings (aka yelling at the Apple desktop monitor since they had no recording system whatsoever) were SO AMAZING, they should make a music Myspace. They realized, upon creating the Myspace, that they did not have an extravagant name to go along with their new hit. The two quickly decided upon Millionaires because it tied into the name of the song, 'I Like Money.' Within hours after posting the first song, they received a shit load of online attention and within weeks, were already on the Myspace Top Artist Charts.

The day after they posted their first song, Dani Artaud (Melissa’s best friend) let herself into the Green's unlocked household, as usual, since it's part of her daily routine. Together as one, the three jammed to the new song. They were so inspired by their new creation of musical beauty, that they decided to make a new track in hopes that Baby Jesus would continue to hover over them. The three new band mates quickly shat out 'Hoe Down' within hours and posted it immediately that night. After that, their shit just took off.

Over the next few months, when they had enough songs to play a show, they met up with DJ Hyphy Crunk, who immediately took them under his great bountiful wing. After some intense training and tests of strength and merit, they decided they were ready to play some hardcore shows. Towards the end of November, they played their first show at The Joint and the next night played at The Roxy in Hollywood. Their good friend Mark Maxwell attended the first two shows and after watching the positive reactions from the fans, decided to spice up their music a little. He first remixed 'Alcohol', and the online frenzy began to grow even more. After that, they decided to make Mark their producer. Millionaires' fan base continued to grow at an alarming pace as did the popularity of Hyphy Crunk's nightclub, The Heist. The band and Hyphy Crunk decided they each needed to focus on their individual priorities and decided to split ways while Sarah Mclaughlin was playing in the background. From that point on, Mark Maxwell took a hold of the demon reigns of the flaming Millionaires caravan careening straight to hell. On this demented course towards fame, they got swooped up by the Artery Foundation, One Moment Management, and The Agency Group. Now the girls' paths were clear. They took their next step and made their first music video to their hit 'Alcohol.' After only 6 grueling months of being together, they landed a spot on Bamboozle Left '08. The girls took that stage and made it their bitch for the night. They were now ready to tackle the treacherous task of tour.

They set out on their first two week co-headlining tour in July ‘08 with nothing but themselves, a rental van and a pink bedpan. The tour was sold out almost every night. This is probably because of their irresistible attraction to complete negligence of the laws in these United States of America. During the tour, they were asked to perform live on MTV's TRL, which was probably the most horrifyingly terrific situation of their young lives. They also took that stage and proceeded to make it their bitch as well. During the course of this tour, they also released their first digital EP-"Bling Bling Bling" into online music stores worldwide. On their break from tour, the girls were featured on the cover of Bakatopia Magazine, had a article in the OC Weekly, did interviews on DJ Rosstar's Internet Radio show as well as Forbidden Radio, and played the LA Pre-Warped Tour Party with Shwayze and 3OH!3.

As of now, the girls are back at home in their hell holes constantly slaving over their next biggest hit. Who knows what controversial shenanigans these girls will come up with next!

The millionaires although, offeding, are just so peppy, sexy, and funny.
There music is catchy and easy to listen to. i hope they actually go on to make full albums with their music although many people would disagree.

Kat Von D

Motley Crue: Greatest hits 2009 by Angelharlem

Kat Von D (March 8, 1982, and who has given her birth name as both Katherine Drachenberg on her official site and Katherine von Drachenberg in two German interviews) is an American tattoo artist and television personality. She is best known for her work as a tattoo artist on the TLC reality television show LA Ink, which premiered August 7, 2007 in the United States and November 11, 2007 in the UK

Kat Von D was born in Nuevo Leon, Mexico,. Her parents are Argentinean-Mexican. Her father, René Drachenberg, is of German descent and her mother, Sylvia Galeano, is of Italian and Spanish descent. Von D has a sister named Karoline and a brother named Michael. She moved with her family to the Los Angeles area at age 4 and grew up in Colton, California. Von D was classically trained in piano beginning at age 6. She particularly appreciates Ludwig van Beethoven.

She credits the prominent Black culture of New York City as being a major influence drawing tattoos in her art and style. She began listening to the Ramones, the Misfits and other punk rock bands at the age of 12. She got her first tattoo at 14 and quit school at 16 to become a tattoo artist

Von D was asked to work at Miami Ink when Darren Brass hurt his elbow preventing him from tattooing. She appeared in the first four seasons of the same-name reality TV show taped there. She had a falling out with Ami James which led to her being asked to leave the shop. Kat has said she has not spoken with members of Miami Ink since her departure.

She later acquired her own series, LA Ink, following her work at her tattoo shop, High Voltage Tattoo, in Hollywood, California. On the show, she gained the Guinness World Record of most tattoos given by a single person in 24 hours, with a total of 400. This was broken shortly after by her ex-husband Oliver Peck with 415, then Robbie "Coon" Koch with 577, then Derek Kastning with 726, and after that by Hollis Cantrell with 801.

Her first book High Voltage Tattoo, compiling her artworks and tattoos, with a foreword by Mötley Crüe's Nikki Sixx, was released in January 2009 and reached #6 on The New York Times Best Seller list. The book traces Von D's career as an artist, from early childhood influences to recent work, along with examples of inspirations, information about the show and her shop, sketches, and personal tattoos. Von D described the book as "not an autobiography, you know, 'cause I'm too young to do that. But this is just kind of like a picture-driven outline of my career as an artist. So, you see everything from my drawings when I was six to tattoos that have never before been seen." Her second book, The Tattoo Chronicles, an illustrated diary following a year in her life, was released October 26, 2010, and reached #3 on The New York Times "Hardcover Advice & Misc." best-seller list.

In 2008, Von D created and launched a make-up line for Sephora. She has released new collections every year and has expanded her line to include fragrances. She is the creator of the MusInk Tattoo Convention and Music Festival, which began in 2008.

On September 2, 2010, Von D opened the art gallery and boutique Wonderland Gallery in the space next door to High Voltage Tattoo.

Von D was married to fellow tattoo artist Oliver Peck, but they were separated and preparing for divorce by August 2007. She dated Nikki Sixx from 2008 to Jan 2010. She later began dating motorcycle customizer, West Coast Choppers CEO and reality-show star Jesse James. On August 19, 2010, Von D confirmed media reports that she and James were dating, tweeting "I think it's pretty obvious that we're dating." Von D and James announced their engagement on January 20, 2011.

Von D has tattooed herself with the emblems of the bands Misfits, HIM, Turbonegro, ZZ Top, Guns N' Roses, AC/DC, Slayer, Mike Got Spiked and "Slutallica", a modified Metallica logo. She appeared in the music video of Alkaline Trio's "Help Me", as well as HIM's Killing Loneliness. Other musical artists that Von D lists among her favorites include The Mars Volta and Selena. She also likes the band 30 Seconds To Mars and is featured on the cover of "This Is War" as one of the 2,000 fans chosen

To say that using profanity isnt a good way to produce a good image is to be ignorant of the fact that homosexuality has tried to produce a good image since the dawn of their persecution only to get fucked over by someone whom doesnt understand or care to.

funny thing about homosexuality for all you bible thumping hypocritical so called Christians is that nowhere does it say that its a crime against god to be perfectly clear it says that homosexuality is an abomination a VERY different word meaning socially detestable, which of course is obviously true.

but to say that god made you the way you are and that way will send you to hell is just completely false i belive. just thought id throw this out

so let them say fuck, its only a word, it offends because people allow it to offend them. not only is it offending but some should actually picture the idea that maybe they want it to be offending. offense gathers more attention especially if its humorous.

who wins....these guy's/gal's

i love fckh8, its a unique, funny, and creative organization that finally says enough is enough. i love fckh8

learning tattooing is definitely super important. Also, make sure you get a proper tattoo apprenticeship and do not try and teach yourself.” Make sure you keep up on your drawing and artwork. Always draw what comes to mind. Take some art classes and always practice a lot. The more you practice, the more it becomes who you are – YOUR identity. The better you are at drawing the easier you will be able to pick up tattooing.
