Alecia Beth Moore, better known by her stage name Pink, is the feisty Philadelphia singer who gained prominence in 2000 and has had continued success around the world. Though initially viewed as yet another face in the late-'90s crowd of teen pop acts, Pink quickly proved to be one of the rare artists to transcend and outgrow the label.
Born on September 8, 1979, in Doylestown, PA, Pink received her nickname as a child. Music was a major part of her childhood; her father taught her how to play the guitar and was a major influence on her musical style. Other inspirations included Janis Joplin, Shirley Murdock and Donna Hathaway. By age 13 Pink was a regular on the Philadelphia club scene, first as a dancer, then as a backing vocalist for the local hip-hop group Schools of Thought. She began writing her own songs when she was 14.
It was at her regular Friday night five minute slot that an MCA Records executive spotted and asked her to audition for a group. She made it into Basic Instinct, but they quickly folded. She was then recruited into a group named Choice signed to the LaFace label. However, they disbanded due to differences over musical direction. During Choice's brief studio time, Pink hooked up with producer Daryl Simmons to write the bridge for "Just to be Loving You." Impressed with the results, Pink rediscovered her songwriting muse, and an equally impressed L.A. Reid soon gave her a solo deal with LaFace.
In spring 2000, Pink released her debut album ‘Can't Take Me Home’ to worldwide acclaim and fame. Recorded with a wide range of R&B songwriters and producers, it spawned three Top Ten singles in "There U Go," "Most Girls," and "You Make Me Sick." Though Pink has said she really didn't like this direction for her music, the album sold over 2 million copies.
Pink moved away from her urban roots on the more successful ‘M!ssundaztood,' a harder-edged album, featuring several tracks written and produced by her longtime idol, ex-4 Non Blondes singer Linda Perry. Released in 2001, the album is her biggest seller to date, featuring the chart-topping hits "Get The Party Started" and "Just Like a Pill." In the same year, Pink won her first Grammy award for her collaborative hit “Lady Marmalade” alongside Christina Aguilera, Mya and L’il Kim.
Pink's next album 'Try This,' released in 2003, was even more rock-oriented. While it was less successful commercially, it still sold over 3,000,000 copies. The lead single "Trouble," earned Pink a Grammy for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance.
After a brief break from music, she returned in 2006 with her fourth album 'I'm Not Dead,' which she said she titled as such because "It's about being alive and feisty and not sitting down and shutting up even though people would like you to." The CD included many hits, such as "Stupid Girls," "Who knew" and "U + Ur Hand." 'I'm Not Dead' also achieved the platinum status in several countries.
Her fifth album 'Funhouse' was released in late October 2008 and was led by her first solo number one on the Hot 100, "So What." Aside from her ‘tough girl’ image and distinctive style (she is rarely seen without brightly colored hair), Pink is also a fervent activist. In 2005, she contributed to a charity concert raising money for tsunami victims and has often leant her face and her fame to groups like PETA. She married and divoreced motocross superstar champion, Carey Hart.
This Artist i love not just because of the usual "independent strong willed and sexy femme fatal woman" more so for the art that she creates. She puts her feelings even though some are not so appealing into her music for all to see. the fearless music she produces is what made her popular and her rockstar i dont give a fuck attitude got her even further.
